It is necessary to be a Karabük University student to study at KBÜ TÖMER. If you are not a university student, you can still study at KBÜ TÖMER as a course participant without being a Karabük University student by obtaining a Turkish Language Course Visa.
What should be done to learn Turkish as a student by coming to Karabük University from outside Turkey?
An application letter should be submitted to Karabük University TÖMER, two term fees should be paid based on the current term fees, and an Acceptance Certificate should be obtained. An application for a ‘Turkish Language Course Visa’ must be made to the Turkish Embassy in the country of residence, and the documents requested by the Embassy must be completed in full. After arriving in Turkey, a course registration application must be made at Karabük University TÖMER. An application must be made to the Karabük Provincial Directorate of Migration Management for a Turkish Language Learning Visa and a Residence Permit for the Purpose of Learning Turkish.
How can a person who has applied as a student or course participant enrolled at Karabük University register for the KBÜ TÖMER Preparatory Education/Language Course?
Students must pay at least one term's fee based on the current term and, if they wish, the Level Assessment Exam fee. After completing the KBÜ TÖMER Registration Form, they must submit the documents listed below to the staff at the KBÜ TÖMER Student Affairs Office.
A photocopy of their passport or Turkish ID card.
A photocopy of the student certificate.
If available, a photocopy of the language level certificate/document. (The original must be presented.)
A bank receipt confirming payment of the fee (The student's full name must be written in the description section of the bank receipt at the time of payment).
On which days do the lessons take place and how long do they last?
The courses consist of A1, A2, B1, B2, and C1 levels. The A1 and B2 levels last 9 weeks, while the A2, B1, and C1 levels last 8 weeks. Classes are held 5 days a week, Monday to Friday, in two separate groups, with 5 lessons each in the morning and afternoon. The morning group's class hours are from 08:30 to 12:35, and the afternoon group's class hours are from 13:40 to 17:40.
Which textbook is used in the classes?
The textbook ‘Yeni İstanbul’ is used as a resource in the classes.
Are the classes face-to-face?
All classes, from beginner to advanced levels, are face-to-face.
Where will the classes be held?
Classes will be held in classrooms located in the Karabük University Central Campus Student Affairs Centre Building and the Faculty of Theology buildings.
How do you move on to the next level after completing one level?
A Level Completion Exam is held at the end of each level. The Level Completion Exam is administered to assess the four basic language skills (reading, listening, writing and speaking). Students who pass the exam and are successful in the overall assessment continue to the next level, while those who fail must repeat the level.
What is the passing grade for Course Completion Exams?
The passing grade for the exams is 60. In order for a student to be considered successful in the Course Completion Exam, they must score at least 60 out of 100 in each of the four basic language skills (reading, listening, writing and speaking).
Can I receive a certificate confirming that I have successfully completed each course at the end of the course?
Yes. At the end of each course, a certificate of achievement indicating the successfully completed level can be issued to the student/course participant upon request.
How can I be exempted from Turkish preparatory education with a certificate?
According to the university's registration calendar, during the Turkish preparatory period, students who wish to be exempt from Turkish preparatory education with a Turkish Proficiency Certificate must submit Turkish Language Course Certificate Documents obtained from the Yunus Emre Institute or Turkish State Universities (certificate documents obtained at the end of formal education courses are accepted), transcripts obtained by those who have successfully completed four (4) years of formal Turkish education at secondary schools affiliated with the Ministry of National Education, transcripts of students who have completed formal Turkish education in associate degree (2 years) and bachelor's degree (4 years) programmes at state universities in Turkey and are eligible to receive a diploma, and success certificates of students who have successfully passed the Turkish Proficiency Exams conducted by the Yunus Emre Institute (at least 60 points out of 100, C1 level) are valid.

How is the course fee refunded?
A refund form must be requested from the KBÜ TÖMER office. After the form is completed and submitted, the necessary checks are carried out, and payments deemed eligible for refund are returned. (A1 and A2 course fees are non-refundable.)
Is there an attendance requirement for classes?
Yes, there is a 35-hour attendance allowance for each course. Students who exceed this allowance will not be admitted to the Course Completion Exam and cannot proceed to the next level. No fee refunds will be issued to students who fail to meet the attendance requirement.
Can the course be frozen for a period of time?
The student discusses the registration freeze with the instructor in charge of their class. The instructor logs into the KBÜ TÖMER Automation system and carries out the registration freeze.
Who can take the Turkish Proficiency Exam?
Anyone who wishes to certify their Turkish language skills can take the Turkish Proficiency Exam.
How can one apply for the Turkish Proficiency Exam?
Applications for the Turkish Proficiency Exam can be made by emailing the following completed documents to tomer@karabuk.edu.tr or by applying in person.
Turkish Proficiency Exam application form, passport or ID photocopy, student certificate, bank receipt confirming payment of the relevant exam fee.
Is it possible to start at the desired level at KBÜ TÖMER?
No. Students who enrol at KBÜ TÖMER must submit the certificate of the last course they completed to the KBÜ TÖMER Student Affairs Office. In addition, all students can take the Level Placement Test before classes begin if they wish (only one application for this test is possible) and enrol in the appropriate level course based on the test results.
Who can take the Placement Test?
KBÜ TÖMER students can take the Placement Test. Students who are continuing their courses and who have failed their course exams cannot take the Placement Test. Students can only take the Placement Test once.
What documents are required for the Level Placement Exam?
The Level Placement Exam fee and a receipt for the course fee the student will earn based on the exam result.
